Self-employment

Starting your own business

Being in my prime is a great time to think about starting a business. Unlike many younger people, you have wisdom, experience, patience and a breadth of knowledge about the world. Add to this the fact that many people may be better placed practically to deal with the inherent risk in running a business than perhaps they once were, and it's certainly a good time to investigate the possibilities.

Starting a business doesn't need to be a huge risk. Many of the most successful businesses started small. You don't have to aim to be 'an entrepreneur' at the outset. Just concentrate on something you passionately want to do, something that you believe there is a market for, and something you're prepared to work hard at achieving - and see where it goes!

There are plenty of ways you can minimise the risk, low barriers to entry in many areas of business, and plenty of advice around - so why not stop procrastinating and start planning? The worst thing you can do is to do nothing about it and realise, regretfully, many years from now, that you should have 'had a go'.
